【摘要】:Upliftresistanceisoneofthepropertiesofanappliedshinglethatrelatestoitsabilitytowithstandwindforces.Themechanicaltestsdescribedarelaboratorymethodstomeasurethatresistanceatadesignatedtemperatureaftertheshingleshavebeensealedunderdesignatedconditions.5.1.1Noquantitativerelationshiphasbeenestablishedbetweenthemechanicalupliftresistanceandupliftforcesduetothewind.Manyfactorsinfluencethesealingcharacteristicsofshinglesinthefield;forexample,temperature,time,contaminationbydirtanddebris,roofslope,andinterferencebymisplacedfasteners.Itisnottheobjectiveofthistestmethodtoaddressalloftheseinfluences.Thistestmethodisdesignedtodeterminethemechanicalupliftresistancewhenrepresentativespecimensofshinglesaresealedunderselectedconditionspriortotesting.ProcedureAproduceslowerresultsthanProcedureB.ProcedureAprovidesanedge-liftloadvalueandProcedureBprovidesaperpendicularloadvalue.Theprocedureapplicabletoaspecificproductdependsonthespecificproductdesign,geometry,andrigidity.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthistestmethodtodeterminetheappropriateprocedurewithreferencetothespecificproductandapplication.Itispossiblethatengineeringcalculationswouldrequirebothprocedurestobeemployed,andforbothresultstobeusedinthecalculationoftheresistanceofthatspecificproducttotheeffectsofwind.1.1Thistestmethodcoversmeasuringtheupliftresistanceofasphaltroofingshinglesbymechanicalmeans.Itisapplicabletoshinglesthatuseafactory-appliedorfield-appliedsealant.1.2Thereareseveraltypesofshinglesdesignedforservicewithoutafactory-appliedorfield-appliedsealant.Theseshingles,whenappliedinaccordancewiththemanufacturers'applicationinstructions,employothermeanstoprovideresistanceagainsttheforcesgeneratedbytheactionofwindsuchasgeometryandshingleconstruction.Fieldexperiencehasshownthatthesetypesofshinglesfunctionsatisfactorilyinservice.Becausethereareavarietyoftheseshingledesigns,itisnotpracticaltodescribeinthistestmethodhowtotesttheseshinglesforupliftresistance.Thetestingofthesetypesofshingles,therefore,goesbeyondthescopeofthistestmethod.1.3Thistestmethoddescribestwoproceduresformeasuringshingleupliftresistance.ProcedureAemploysaspeciallydesignedapparatuswithaclampingdevicewhichfacilitatesliftingoftheedgeoftheshingleandmeasuringtheforcerequiredtobreaktheseal.ProcedureBemploysametal"T"sectionadheredtotheweathersurfaceoftheshingletofacilitateapplicationandmeasurementofaperpendicularforcetobreaktheseal.1.4Itisnotprohibitedtousethistestmethodoverarangeofsealingtimeandtemperaturecombinationsandtestingtemperaturestosimulateavarietyofactualfielduseconditions.Thetimesandtemperaturesusedshallbestatedinthereport.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Theinch-poundvaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
